Guide

How to use the portal

The SAGARA portal is designed for management stakeholders: government, companies, civil society organizations, and the public. The four steps below are enough to start reading the data.

1. Explore the map

Open the Map page, drag to move, and use the mouse/trackpad scroll or the +/− buttons to zoom. Scroll zoom follows the cursor position. Click a province for KHG details within one province and across provinces.

2. Set the layers

Open the Map layers panel at the top left, choose one theme, and tick the monitoring locations you need. Each layer lists its source and coverage. Scroll inside the panel to see other options without zooming the map.

3. Read the dashboard

The dashboard summarizes the BRGM source inventory. Note the year, units, and aggregation limits. Data that is not yet available is not replaced with sample figures; source details are on the Data policy page.

4. Browse studies

Technical study results (hydrology, forest and land fires, mangroves, community livelihoods) are available in the list below and will keep growing as the portal develops.

Accounts and registration

Do I need an account to view the map and dashboard?

No. The public map and dashboard can be opened without an account.

How do I register as a registered user?

To be completed once the registration rules are adopted.

Data access and requests

Can data be downloaded without signing in?

Under the draft access rights, visitors cannot yet download Open or Registered data. Downloads require a registered user account. Restricted data is requested through the Data Request form.

How do I submit a data request?

Through the Data Request page. Requests require signing in and are then forwarded to the data custodian for approval. The download link is sent by email.

What do the Open, Registered, Restricted, and Internal access levels mean?

See the Access levels section on the Data policy page.

Citation and licensing

How do I cite SAGARA data?

Use the citation format on the Data policy page, then fill in the data name and access date.

May the data be reused?

Reuse conditions and the licence will be completed once adopted by the portal manager.

Complaints

How do I report a fire or ecosystem damage?

Use the Complaints form. Reports go to the Citizen Reports module, are verified, and are then forwarded to the relevant agency. The reporter receives a report number.

Are reports acted on immediately?

Reports are verified first before being forwarded to the relevant agency.
